Green roof

A green roof is a dream for many. This project involved advanced planning during the pre-house-build stage in order to get city permits and ensure weight and drainage considerations for soil, water and plant material (following the Toronto Green Roof Construction Standard). At the time, the City of Toronto was offering an eco-incentive for projects that provided homeowners a small grant to complete a project such as this.

The design was heavily influenced by Japanese garden aesthetics, and included native plants that would thrive in a north-facing garden at a particular soil depth (based on building permit) so as to ensure survival and longevity of the plantings. A built-in irrigation and drainage system was also added for ease of maintenance.

The planting design was scaled from low-growing vegetation in front to tall in back so as to maximize the view, as the garden is situated just outside the extra large master bath window with a stunning view from the ofuru relaxation tub that was installed.
